Your Pelvic Floor

These muscles need to be exercised every day to stay healthy. Your pelvic floor can become weak for many reasons: Pregnancy, Childbirth, Hypermobility, Weight gain, Menopause and numerous other reasons. A specific individually tailored exercise program can improve weakness but if you have a dysfunction then you will need more specialist intervention. Pelvic floor dysfunction can encompass many problems:

Prolapse – Rectocele, Cystocele, uterine prolapse

Pain with toileting (dysurai)

Painful intercourse (dysparunia)

Problems opening your bowels (obstructive defecation)

Constipation

Coccydynia

Proctalgia Fugax

Pudendal Neuralgia

Vulvodynia

Vaginismus

Interstitial cystitis

Dyssynergia

All of these problems may be improved with specialist physiotherapy input.
